MultiTaction dives into record installation

Interactive digital signage technology developer, MultiTouch, has created the world’s largest interactive installation—capable of being used by hundreds of visitors at the same time

Situated in Queenslands University of Technology’s (QUT) interactive learning exhibition, The Cube, the installation is also reportedly the world’s largest array of unlimited touch displays.

Used to investigate and cross pollinate complementary technologies, QUT has spent A$230m (£158m) on its Science and Engineering Centre, which houses The Cube.

Through this innovative technology, we are able to break down the imagined barriers between academia and the public

“For anyone interacting with The Cube, it’s the MultiTaction Cells that lend the installation its magic. Through this innovative technology, we are able to break down the imagined barriers between academia and the public, making The Cube a centre of scientific exploration for all who care to participate,” says Dr Gordon Howell, associate director, Learning Environments Support at QUT.

The new installation is the world's largest digital signage touch sensitive installation

The exhibition includes 48 x 55” ultra-thin bezel (UTB) MultiTaction Cell displays, forming the 1,400 cubic metre Cube. The Cube comprises six educational zones, including the two-storey, 14-meter-long ‘Virtual Reef’, where 20 Cells ingeniously combine with an edge-blended Panasonic projection system, and the ‘Physics Zone’.

“We’ve always been ahead of the curve with multitouch technology,” explains Petri Martikainen, chief executive officer of MultiTouch, who adds: “Our clients keep pushing the boundaries of interactive installations by using our technology in creative ways, and this original and captivating interactive installation is the biggest and best in the world.”

The installation runs a number of interactive applications, with Virtual Reef the flagship experience.
