Trade Signs invests in 170 tonne beast

In a landmark development for Trade Signs, the sign industry supplier has revealed an investment into a state-of-the-art Amada 170t metal folding machine that will significantly increase its competitive capabilities as it can process lengths up to 4m long.

“Business is very good, but this investment is part of an ongoing progression of modernisation across Trade Signs,” says Matt Driver, managing director of the firm. He adds: “Investing in the latest technology and software improves our efficiency and capabilities.”

As part of the machines extended features is a sophisticated offline software package that allows for a CAD design to be generated and then directly transferred to the machine through the use of a barcode scanning system—as opposed to manual programming and set-up.

The Amada also features the Digipro angle measurement system—allowing for automatic adjustment and correction during the job, an automated tool selection system, a five axis back gauge, and Amada’s Eco Drive system to continually monitor and self-adjust bending requirements and reduce its energy usage.

“Its capability to process 4m lengths puts us into a new league and opens up some very important sectors for us like construction. I have been in sheet metal for 24 years and our set-up is more advanced now than many dedicated players in this area,” adds Trade Signs senior buyer Gary Mallet.

Driver concludes: “We invested when times were tough, and as we came out of the recession it put us ahead of the competition, as having capabilities they don’t is vital. In addition, the people who work for you are fundamental and I am very proud of my team.”
