The Hertfordshire-based Projects and Print began business in 2010 and now manages a portfolio of projects for blue-chip companies. The company has installed premium displays in 26 John Lewis stores over seven days, and installs and supports all new Costa Coffee stores across the country. Projects and Print also has a long-standing relationship with Samsonite, from producing posters and roller banners to installing a whole range of signage.

Projects and Print found its newly-installed Tekcel EXR to be the ideal piece of equipment for the hotel project. As Complete CNC Solutions’ flagship model in the Tekcel range, the EXR has been designed for demanding applications in sign-making projects, plastic fabrication, woodworking, exhibition building, shop fitting, foam packaging, and a range of other applications.

It can handle many different substrates including metal, aluminum composite material (ACM), plastic, wood, stainless steel, fibreglass, high density foams, and rigid foamed PVC—with a maximum material thickness of 135mm.

The machine has a cutting speed of up to 600mm per second (24m/min) with an active cutting area of 2050 x 3100mm. In terms of whether the machine will fit in your own production space, the device measures L 4200 x W 2760 x H 2000mm.

For the hotel project, the EXR was used to cut the profiles from 12mm thick Corian and acrylic, and then to engrave the detailing of the numbers. The acrylic was printed on the company’s Agfa Anapurna, and the Corian was first buffed and polished. The Tekcel’s auto tool changer and indexing enables the job to require only minimal operator intervention.

A statement from Complete CNC Solutions says: “The Tekcel EXR is a highly productive system that has the legs needed to keep up with the high standards of service that define Projects and Print. Its 3 x 2m bed accommodates the largest work-pieces and its Opticut system elevates its capabilities into precise, top-quality print finishing - the system plays well with the busy Anapurna.”

The high quality engraving achieved by the Tekcel router allowed Projects and Print to use its diamond polisher to develop the signs further, and when hand applying infilling for the numbering.

Projects and Print is not the only company to have taken on the Tekcel EXR, as Display Signs last year staked a substantial part of its capital investment budget on the purchase of the router, also from Complete CNC Solutions.

Complete CNC Solutions recently spoke out over the need for the correct and organised use of cutters in order to improve the performance of almost any router. The company believes it has the answer to getting the best out of hardware. In light of this, the supplier has commenced a development programme to produce a range of cutting tools for its own, and for others’ router hardware, designed to produce noticeably better results. It has also designed a systemised approach to the use of its cutters that will extend the life of cutters, lower operating costs, and improve general output quality.

Tekcel cuts new swathe of profits for sign-makers
