Memjet's McGlynn hints at Landa nano print future

Speaking at the UK launch of the OWN-X WideStar 2000, president of Memjet, Bill McGlynn, has reignited the debate about the potential impact of nano print technology—first publicised by Landa at Drupa 2012.

Benny Landa caused plenty of buzz at Drupa 2012 with the unveiling of Nanographic technology

Part of the team that developed the HP Indigo, McGlynn hinted that Memjet would partake in a future joint development programme for applying nano technology to all forms of print.

"I don't want to take you to some place that Spock would go, but we are really excited about spitting nano particles in the future. Now, because you can spit 1.2pl drops, one trillionth of a litre, and do it accurately to one sixteen hundredth of an inch, and do it on top of one another over and over again, the registration and the ability of this technology does a really good job of printing," said McGlynn.

McGlynn also spoke about the wider potential of nano print technology, from creating super-thin lithium batteries to curing Staff-C infections.

He continued: "There are a number of applications that are coming because of nano particles that are probably as interesting to us as printing. But in the meantime printing is exciting, but we might not be printing with ink in the future, we might be printing with nano particles that do strange and mysterious things. We need the revenues of the print jobs now to be able to drive the research and development into the future."

Responding to a tongue in cheek question about his bold aspirations from Print Business editor, Gareth Ward, McGlynn ended the discussion by joking: "Print now and save a life in the future."

This follows confirmation that chief executive officer of the Landa Group and creator of HP Indigo and Nanography technology, Benny Landa, will take part in a special discussion at wide-format print technology developer EFI's annual conference.

EFI is an industry leader and I look forward to sharing our vision with EFI users on how Nanography can bring digital printing to mainstream applications

Landa, chairman and chief executive officer of the Landa Group, will participate in a ‘fireside chat’ question and answer session with EFI chief executive officer, Guy Gecht. The 14th annual EFI Connect Users Conference will take place from January 15th to 18th next year at The Wynn in Las Vegas, and Landa’s presence is set to attract further interest.

“EFI is an industry leader and I look forward to sharing our vision with EFI users on how Nanography can bring digital printing to mainstream applications,” comments Landa.

Connect 2013 claims it will be the ‘industry’s best’ venue for open dialogue and idea exchange in 2013, hoping to attract business leaders from across the world. Visitors can also take part in over 150 educational sessions, receive hands-on experience, discuss industry trends, network with peers, voice opinions on different issues, and learn from what others are doing.
