Originally named the Post Office Tower, the BT Tower usually displays colours on the 36th and 37th floors.
Its colourful, 360-degree LED light display – known as the ‘Information Band’ – was launched in October 2009 and is the largest of its kind in the world.
The technical issue began on the afternoon of Saturday, April 6th and has now been resolved.
Commenting on the error message, a spokesperson for BT says: “A technical issue caused the info band on the BT Tower to display an error message which has now been fixed.”
Opened on October 8th, 1965, the 189m high tower is built from 13,000 tonnes of steel and 4,600sq m of glass.

The tower was commissioned by the General Post Office to support microwave aerials carrying telecommunications transmissions from London to the rest of the country.
According to BT, the tower became a London landmark due to its significant height and was the tallest building in the whole of the UK at the time it was built.
The BT tower has been described by the British multinational telecommunications company as a “TV mast, communications transmitter, restaurant and London landmark all in one.”
A special message was broadcast at the top of the tower on October 8th, 2018 to mark its 53rd birthday.
