The printed vinyl had to be able to withstand the high humidity levels of the pool
“It has been a joy to be part of this project. Signs Express worked with key members of the team, including the artist and hospital staff, to ensure the right decisions were being made,” says Carol Morris, owner of Signs Express.
The new pool was built at the Rygate Children’s Centre in March 2013, following a successful fundraising campaign, and was opened by Paralympic gold medallist, Oliver Hynd.
Signs Express worked with Cat Powell, artfelt manager at the hospital. The process was to assist and advise on the most suitable vinyl and print, considering the environment has very high humidity levels.
The end result—a wonderful environment for the children”
A testament to the growing popularity of the medium, a number of different options were tested before 40 metres of full colour printed vinyl were applied to interior walls.

Demand for digitally printed bespoke wall graphics
is on the rise
Morris continues: “The end result—a wonderful environment for the children”.
The new facility replaces the centre’s previous 50-year-old pool, and boasts a contemporary design with an accessible sunken bathing area, complete with underwater lights and an improved hoist system. It will be used to help young people with disabilities to develop their skills and strengthen their bodies.
Cat Powell, artfelt manager at the children’s hospital sent a letter of thanks to Signs Express, saying: “Thank you so much for all your help in making the hydrotherapy pool project a great success. Your support paid a key part in helping us to be able to transform the pool and we are extremely grateful for this.”
