An impressive display met visitors to The Alexandria Center for Life Science in New York City.
Selected by the Niles Creative Group, the product was used for a gigantic 50 x 5ft digital video display in the foyer of The Alexandria Center for Life Science, with the aim of creating an an, ‘international hub for collaboration and innovation’.
“We designed the content delivery system and its respective technology to mirror the innovation in science and talent that the centre provides,” explains David Niles of the Niles Creative group.
The display is made up of 34 seamless LCD panels, with content managed by a Dataton Watchout server supplied by Show Sage, and show control for the system performed by Medialon.

Alongside the abstract and artistic content the display is predominantly used for, the actual marble in the lobby was also duplicated on the screen—allowing the display to blend into its surroundings when in passive mode.
“Since installation, the intuitive display has worked very well. We’ve designed the system so it can turn itself on and off, and it even changes and selects its own video content,” says Niles.
He adds: “To manage the content, we’re using the conditional layer feature of Watchout, which even allows content on different layers on the timeline to be switched on and off.”
The installation forms part of a growing trend in North America, which is seeing digital signage now becoming a part of almost every facet of public space.
