The launch was attended by a number of industry figures, with Olympic cyclist gold medallist, Victoria Pendleton, also in attendance to meet visitors.

“It is a great opportunity for us to take the Memjet technology to a new place and get it off on the right foot.

"We’ve been heard of for a long time, we’ve not been very public, so this is a great opportunity to get in front of the public and show them what Memjet really does,” comments Memjet president, Bill McGlynn.

Boasting 1600dpi native resolution, the new model is capable of printing in colour at speeds of up to 300mm per second, on paper up to 1067mm wide.

It also features a two-roll infeed with additional sheet feed, a 200m roll length, and offers an environmentally-friendly solution by using water-based inks.

A key feature of the new model, the Memjet printheads claim to be eight times faster than traditional inkjet printheads.

Using ‘waterfall’ technology, each of the five printheads contain 70,400 nozzles and ‘fire’ millions of ink drops per second.

The printhead has been tipped to cause disruption in the wide-format market, with manufacturers saying it is a ‘paradigm shift’ in printhead design.

The Widestar 2000 also has an Own-X Liberty printer control system, which is described as the ‘ultimate’ production workflow solution for large-scale wide-format printing.

Controlled from one  touchscreen interface, it also gives the user the ability to add extra modules, includes cutting solutions and cost management.

With competition in the wide-format market currently very heated both in the UK and across the globe, the new technology only promises to add fuel to that fire.
